PICTURE AND ARTWORK HANGING
Most homeowners are capable of hanging standard pictures and artwork on drywall. However, hanging these pictures and artwork takes TIME. And to hang them properly level and straight takes TIME.
In fact, most regular homeowners just hurry this project up and everything ends up messy and crooked.
To hang just one picture anywhere on the drywall with no precise accurate measurements is fine if that's what you're going after. However, if you want your pictures and artwork to be hung professionally. And have everything spaced properly, level and straight, and not sagging or won't get crooked over time. All of this takes patience and time to do right the first time.
I notice most homeowners when they hang pictures only use one hook or anchor on the wall. This results in pictures getting unlevel over time and is not the right way to do this.
I always use two or more anchors depending on how heavy and large the piece is. With a good picture hanging wire.
This is the way to ensure the pictures and artwork stay leveled and secured properly until you are ready to remove them for the next location.
Later on, I will talk more about the common and recommended supplies you need for hanging any pictures and artwork on drywall, safely, with tiny holes to patch and with less mess.
MIRROR HANGING
Mirrors come in all shapes and sizes and weights. Mirrors can be frameless or with a wood frame. Generally, if the mirror is heavy you will need a stronger drywall anchor to support the mirror for safety. I will talk more about supplies later in this article.
Hopefully, the back of the mirror has heavy duty D-rings attached to the back of it with heavy-duty hanging wire. This is the bare minimum to accomplish hanging the mirrors.
For example, if the mirror is very heavy and large. I will recommend using the OOK 100LB hangers which I will talk more about later. And nail these strong anchors onto wood studs behind the drywall. And you can rest assured it ain't going anywhere.
For example the OOK picture hangers I mentioned. If the hanger says it's rated for 20LB. Even if I use TWO 20lb hangers it's only rated for 20lbs and NOT for 40lbs. So if you are unsure about the weight of the heavy mirror. Just get the heaviest hanger. Usually, a 50lb or 100lb should do the job. And if you think the mirror is heavier than 100lb then I will recommend another anchor to use.
STAIRCASE PICTURE HANGING
If you are the type of person that likes a good challenge. Then hanging a multitude of small pictures down a staircase wall fits the bill! Challenging yes because this involves some extra planning and thinking. Especially if your stairs start on one wall then have a landing on the corner then do a 90-degree turn down another wall. Things can get tricky.
Honestly, if you don't have a laser level, don't even fool around attempting to complete this project. I will show you a before and after picture of this with my laser level.
Patience is key and the thing you must have for this very intricate detailed, tedious, time-consuming task. All the pictures have to be spaced and set right, otherwise, they'll look bad and unprofessional for the final product.
SUPPLIES
The first product I want to talk about is the OOK picture hangers. I am not sponsored by them or get any commission for recommending this product. But this company OOK has been the leader in the industry for decades and is what is used in museums professionally.
I'm not claiming to be the leading expert in this industry but I know this product works and works amazing with the least amount of hole damage to the drywall.
The next set of supplies you'll need to consider are the D-rings and hanging wire. The d-rings are usually secured on the backside of the picture or mirror. And the wire is strung between these two d-rings.
Of course the heavier the object is the stronger of wire with a heavier gauge thickness you'll need. They make these wires out of steel, galvanized, invisible, and a combination of steel with clear.
The last item I want to mention, which doesn't usually get a lot of attention but is highly recommended for not scratching your walls is. Fabric Felt Pads. This is usually the stuff you use under dining tables, chair legs, and more. Its got a sticky side that sticks to the surface and the rest of the material is a fabric felt. Which slides easily on hard floor surfaces. You have most likely used this many many times throughout life.
The purpose of using the felt pads is to stick on the back sides of the pictures and mirrors to keep them from scratching the wall.
