Did you just order some furniture online, and live in the West Knoxville/Farragut area? I would love to help you with your Furniture Assembly in Knoxville TN.
Your brand new piece of furniture arrives off the UPS/FedEx truck and you get all excited to bring it into your house. Then you grab your knife and you open up the box, only to realize there are dozens and dozens of different little pieces and looks like a hundred screws, nuts, and bolts. Does this sound familiar?
I know exactly how you feel. Then the thought occurs, do I even have a drill or wrench in the garage? If you have answered no, then you have found the right place!

What tools do I need to assemble furniture?
Generally, basic hand tools are usually enough to cover the vast majority of furniture assembly jobs. You will most definitely need a philips and flat head screwdriver. A hammer or rubber/plastic mallet, an adjustable wrench. Some allen(hex) wrenches, although most of the time the hardware kit found inside the box will include the correct allen wrench size. A ratchet and socket set for those nuts and bolts.
Sometimes you will need a drill with drill bits to drill out a hole where the manufacturer forgot to predrill. Or if you're putting together those skinny wood bar stools. I have found it beneficial to predrill the holes before driving the screws into place. This will 100% avoid splitting the wood. Once you split the wood you're screwed! But if you do split be sure to add some wood glue inside the joint and use a clamp and let dry overnight. Wipe off the excess glue with a wet paper towel.
Pro tip! - Typically two of the most common allen(hex) wrench sizes used for furniture assembly are 4mm and 5mm. Of course, some will require a smaller or bigger size.
Other not so common or required tools but will most certainly make it easier for you are a bright LED flashlight, knee pads or a movers blanket, your favorite beverage, some upbeat music and a lot of patience.
IKEA Furniture Assembly
I'll be honest, these are my favorite kinds of furniture assembly! Sometimes they give you three books to read with not a single word. No, you cannot skip step 11 just because it looks the same as step 12.
Caution must be taken when using the hardware kit included inside the box. They will include different sized wood dowels, infinite sized screws and different variations of hidden cam and cam bolts. When in doubt always match up the item number with the fastener in question. I like to hold the fastener next to the supposed image you are trying to figure out where it goes.
If you ordered a tall dresser, clothes wardrobe, closet storage or similar. IKEA likes to send a wall mounting hardware kid to secure onto your wall studs. If you know exactly where you will be staging your furniture and do not plan on moving it for a long time. I do recommend you secure it to the wall studs for security. This is not required but a safety precaution, mainly if you have small children in your home.
Another thing to watch out for is when your connecting two piece's of an edge that is unfinished and the adjoining piece is finished. Make sure you analyze the instructions carefully and do not put an unfinished edge where it's not supposed to be! Yes and after you get all finished and see that it doesn't look right you will not only take it all back apart but you will learn a very valuable lesson in attention to detail.
My furniture came damaged or missing parts?
First, relax and breathe… Feel better? Good. This happens a lot more than you think. Remember your piece of furniture has gone through so many phases in its life cycle.
From a tree on the other side of the world to being cut and shaped. To being packaged at a warehouse then transported on some boat or plane, finally to a local distribution center. Then your local UPS or FedEx driver loads onto their truck to its final destination, your home. And along its journey, some of these people have bad days or missed work and someone else miss-handled the product.
Whatever the reason is, it does happen! Don't sweat it, just contact the company or manufacturer where you purchased your furniture and they will 100% for free either send you the replacement part(s) or ask to send back yours and send you a completely new item. Either way, you will be taken care of.
