STILL THINKING ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF PENDANT LIGHT TO GET?
I get it, you look on Wayfair, Ikea, Amazon, and every other online manufacturer you can think of. But if you have not ordered the pendant light yet. Here are a few things to think about beforehand.
The first obvious thing to consider is, do you want a single bar pendant light or a fixture that installs in a single electrical box but has multiple bars? For example, they make pendant lights to have double hanging bars with a long rectangular cover plate on the ceiling with multiple light bulbs.
Sometimes the pendant light has chains so you can adjust the height of the fixture to your liking.
Honestly while shopping online they have endless choices to choose from as far as pendant lights go. The nice thing about pendant fixtures is most of them are light in weight so you can replace an existing ceiling fan with a pendant light. But not the other way around, unless you know 100% for sure the electrical box is the weight for a fan beforehand.
OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER?
Let's talk about bulb size. The TWO most common light bulb socket bases are E12 Candelabra and E26 Medium bases. Most likely you have seen both of these in every single home you've ever been in.
I advise sticking with these standard bulk socket bases because you will always find light bulbs in stock. When you get a pendant fixture with something different than a E12/E26 then it becomes not only more confusing but you have a lot less of a chance of finding light bulbs in stock.
And as for light bulbs I always recommend LED bulbs with a lower amount of watts. Lower watts means it'll use less electricity which will save you more money on your utility bill.
And if you are looking for the brightest lighting. Then make sure you find a LED bulb with higher Lumens. Lumens are basically the brightness of the bulb.
MY PENDANT LIGHT HAS DAMAGE OR IS MISSING PARTS?
First, relax and breathe…This happens a lot more than you think. Remember your pendant light fixture has gone through so many different phases in its life cycle.
The product starts off somewhere, then gets manufactured somewhere, then gets packaged and stored at some warehouse/location. Then eventually you order it online or at the store. Finally, it gets put on a delivery vehicle and dropped at your doorstep.
A lot of moving parts are involved with this entire process. Sometimes quality control has bad days, and people make mistakes. I've seen where the product and box are damaged. This could've been during shipping. I've seen where hardware or parts are missing, which means it failed a QC test.
A lot of times I've run into the glass globes breaking during shipping. Again these kinds of things happen from time to time.
At the end of the day though, if you ordered the pendant light online from a major company. Most of the time as long as you reach back out to the company quickly. They will send you the replacement or damaged product or pieces for free. And I will always 100% let you know if something is damaged or missing before I start.
And if your pendant light did end up having a damaged or missing part. Plan for at least a couple of weeks or longer for the manufacturer to fulfill the replacement order. Especially nowadays after the pandemic, everything will take longer than usual. Having realistic expectations will go a long way.
