DECIDING ON DIFFERENT BOOKSHELVES TO CHOOSE FROM?
I get it, you look on Wayfair, Ikea, Amazon, and every other online manufacturer you can think of. But if you have not ordered the Bookshelf yet. Here are a few things to think about beforehand.
Do you want the bookshelf to be attached and secured to the wall or free-floating? Free-floating means you can move around where ever you want and are not restricted to any walls.
Do you want to have doors and/or drawers? Do you want adjustable shelves so you can rearrange them whenever you feel like it? Some bookshelves come in single panels, while others come in multi two or more panels that you can secure together.
I would advise that you figure out the largest and heaviest books you have in your library and then take this measurement and make sure whatever bookshelf you order will fit and accommodate your books. Books in general if you have a lot of them weigh a lot too. So be sure to check the product's max weight rating capacity to be on the safe side.
OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER?
The other main thing to take into consideration before buying the bookshelf is. If your budget allows. I always recommend you find a bookshelf that is mostly if not all made out of real wood. Nowadays, the majority of furniture products are made of MDF/Particle Board materials. Which are NOT real wood. Some products include a few pieces of real wood. Always, always go for the products that contain real wood. They will last longer.
And the biggest issues with MDF/Particle Board are they act like a sponge. So any moisture and excess water that comes in contact with it expands and deforms. Because the materials are very porous and airy, not dense like real natural wood.
A bookshelf can serve a multi-purpose function as well. I have a client that uses a large bookshelf as a display case and product showcase. Other people will put knick-knacks and decorations on for display. At the end of the day, some people use a bookshelf just to keep things off the floor and store them elevated to make space and free up the floor.
MY BOOKSHELF HAS DAMAGE OR MISSING PARTS?
First, relax and breathe…This happens a lot more than you think. Remember your piece of furniture has gone through so many different phases in its life cycle.
The product starts off somewhere, then gets manufactured somewhere, then gets packaged and stored at some warehouse/location. Then eventually you order it online or at the store. Finally, it gets put on a delivery vehicle and dropped at your doorstep.
A lot of moving parts are involved with this entire process. Sometimes quality control has bad days, and people make mistakes. I've seen where the product and box are damaged. This could've been during shipping. I've seen where hardware or parts are missing, which means it failed a QC test. Even worse is I've run across MDF that's damaged and they either touch up painted or edge banded onto a damaged piece and still shipped it.
At the end of the day though, if you ordered the office desk online from a major company. Most of the time as long as you reach back out to the company quickly. They will send you the replacement or damaged product or pieces for free. And I will always 100% let you know if something is damaged or missing before I start building the office desk.
And if your office desk did end up having a damaged or missing part. Plan for at least a couple of weeks or longer for the manufacturer to fulfill the replacement order. Especially nowadays after the pandemic, everything will take longer than usual. Having realistic expectations will go a long way.
