DECIDING ON DIFFERENT OFFICE DESKS TO CHOOSE FROM?

I get it, you look on Wayfair, Ikea, Amazon, and every other online manufacturer you can think of. But if you have not ordered the office desk yet. Here are a few things to think about beforehand. First, you need to decide if you want a rectangular flat against the wall style. Or an L shape or corner style desk. Or maybe you want a Hutch. A Hutch is basically the upper portion of the desk that sometimes includes shelves and doors. I call this the overhead storage area.

Office desks, come in many different shapes and sizes. Have various drawers, doors, and shelves. Some have keyboard drawers, some have a drawer slide for your printer. Some desks are designed to be finished on all sides. Meaning it can sit anywhere in the middle of a room and not specifically against the wall. Some desks come with rolling file cabinet drawers.

The other main thing to take into consideration before buying the office desk is. If your budget allows. I always recommend you find an office desk that is mostly if not all made out of real wood. Nowadays, the majority of furniture products are made of MDF/Particle Board materials. Which are NOT real wood. Some products include a few pieces of real wood. Always, always go for the products that contain real wood. They will last longer.

And the biggest issues with MDF/Particle Board are they act like a sponge. So any moisture and excess water that comes in contact with it expands and deforms. Because the materials are very porous and airy, not dense like real natural wood.

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER?

If you have a desktop computer with a tower you should think about where you're going to store the tower part of your computer? Some of these office desks have large enough doors where you can easily slip them in there and just close the door.

If you have multiple monitors for your setup I'd suggest getting a larger office desk to accommodate your situation. If you have a large all-in-one printer. Think about where you want to store that? Some people are okay with having the printer sit on top of the desk, but this wastes valuable real estate on your work surface.

If you are a person who likes hoarding lots of papers. Make sure you find an office desk that has several file cabinet style drawers. this will help you organize everything efficiently.

Some office desks have roll-around carts where you could place your printer or other larger electronic devices. And look for those cord hole knockouts on top of the desk so that way it's easier for you to organize all the wiring.

If you plan on using this in a commercial or retail setting and meet with clients. A more finished on all sides curved or L-shaped office desk would be appropriate in this situation.

MY OFFICE DESK HAS DAMAGE OR MISSING PARTS?

First, relax and breatheā€¦This happens a lot more than you think. Remember your piece of furniture has gone through so many different phases in its life cycle.

The product starts off somewhere, then gets manufactured somewhere, then gets packaged and stored at some warehouse/location. Then eventually you order it online or at the store. Finally, it gets put on a delivery vehicle and dropped at your doorstep.

A lot of moving parts are involved with this entire process. Sometimes quality control has bad days, and people make mistakes. I've seen where the product and box are damaged. This could've been during shipping. I've seen where hardware or parts are missing, which means it failed a QC test. Even worse is I've run across MDF that's damaged and they either touch up painted or edge banded onto a damaged piece and still shipped it.

At the end of the day though, if you ordered the office desk online from a major company. Most of the time as long as you reach back out to the company quickly. They will send you the replacement or damaged product or pieces for free. And I will always 100% let you know if something is damaged or missing before I start building the office desk.

And if your office desk did end up having a damaged or missing part. Plan for at least a couple of weeks or longer for the manufacturer to fulfill the replacement order. Especially nowadays after the pandemic, everything will take longer than usual. Having realistic expectations will go a long way.
