THINGS TO CONSIDER? š¤
I get it, you look on Wayfair, Ikea, Amazon, Homedepot/Lowes, and every other online manufacturer you can think of. If you have not ordered the CLOSET SYSTEM yet. Here are a few things to think about beforehand.
When shopping online at these major manufacturers they have an endless database of products to choose from.
Let us start with the basics. You can buy the most simple wire shelving racks at the big box stores and that is the easiest and quickest way to build a closet.
Sometimes you just want wood shelves with metal brackets to hold them up and that's it.
Then we get into the full-on wood cabinet-style closet systems. Let's dive deeper into this style of a closet which seems to be the more desirable and longer-term solution.
The custom closet wood style comes in all different shapes, sizes, colors, hardware, materials, etc. A good tip is to go on Pinterest and search for different design ideas. Show me what you are thinking about doing and we can discuss how to go about this project.
The custom closet approach means you can have the system from floor to ceiling, shorter or wider in-depth. Have as many drawers or doors as you want. And put as many clothes hangers in between the partitions. The partitions are usually the vertical wood slabs that separate and divide the different sections of the closet. Also, you can add belt/tie hooks with a drawer slide to make it easier to use.
If you are a shoe person. They make specially angled shelves to display all the shoes you have.
We can put a laundry basket inside one of the bays and you pull it out like a drawer for easier use.
You can add custom hidden doors or drawers to conceal high-value merchandise and firearms. Also, we can add mirrors built into the closet system as well.
Again the possibilities are endless and infinite. Everyone has a different and unique style and taste. So this is where you really get to shine on your design and ideas and functionality, custom-tailored to you.
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS?
The other main thing to take into consideration before buying a CLOSET SYSTEM is. If your budget allows. I always recommend you find a piece of furniture that is mostly if not all made out of real wood. Nowadays, the majority of furniture products are made of MDF or Particle Board materials. Which are NOT real wood. Some products include a few pieces of real wood. Always, always go for the products that contain real wood. They will last longer.
And the biggest issues with MDF and Particle Board are they act like a sponge. So any moisture and excess water that comes in contact with it expands and deforms. Because the materials are very porous and airy, not dense like real natural wood.
An additional add-on a lot of people choose to do is add soft-close full-extension ball-bearing drawer slides. This is what I call the Mercedes of premium drawer slides. They don't make a loud noise when you close them.
DAMAGED OR MISSING PARTS?
If you bought a pre-made closet system online from one of the retailers and just need it put together and installed. Sometimes every now and then things get damaged or parts go missing.
First, relax and breatheā¦This happens a lot more than you think. Remember your piece of furniture has gone through so many different phases in its life cycle.
The product starts off as raw materials, then gets manufactured somewhere, then gets packaged and stored at some warehouse/location. Then eventually you order it online or at the store. Finally, it gets put on a delivery vehicle and dropped at your doorstep.
A lot of moving parts are involved with this entire process. Sometimes quality control has bad days, and people make mistakes. I've seen where the product and box are damaged. This could've been during shipping. I've seen where hardware or parts are missing, which means it failed a QC test. Even worse is I've run across MDF that's damaged and they either touch up painted or edge banded onto a damaged piece and still shipped it.
At the end of the day though, if you ordered the CLOSET online from a major company. Most of the time as long as you reach back out to the company quickly. They will send you the replacement or damaged product or pieces for free. And I will always 100% let you know if something is damaged or missing before I start building.
And if your furniture did end up having a damaged or missing part. Plan for at least a couple of weeks or longer for the manufacturer to fulfill the replacement order. Especially nowadays after the pandemic, everything will take longer than usual. Having realistic expectations will go a long way.
